Laanioja is known as a place where big mining companies searched for gold at the turn of the last century. It is located a bit farther away from the hotels of Saariselkä, but You still walk there in an hour. Laanioja is one of the most famous gold brooks of Lapland. In a beautiful and sheltered valley there are old mine shafts, remains of huts, open mines and other traces of hard work throughout the decades. While descending to the precipitous valley You can see old mine shafts. Our guides tell You the stories about gold-panning and the history of the area. You can try sluicing and learn how to use a pan. It's guaranteed that everyone finds a couple of nuggets for a souvenir. At the gold-diggers' camp You take a cup of coffee and, if needed, have a meal. Laanioja - half-day tripLaanioja - day trip
